Byers Hall
san francisco, CA
Located on UCSF’s Mission Bay campus, Byers Hall provides space for collaboration between academic researchers and the biotechnology industry. The heart of Byers Hall is anchored by a monumental stair flanked by a gentle arching corridor on one side and a maple paneled wall on the opposite side. The maple wall rises in a single plane from entry level to the central skylight and visually unites all five floors. On each floor, laboratory neighborhoods organized around interactive spaces anchor each end of the stair. The interactive spaces are centered between and provide access to researcher’s offices, computational labs, and wet labs, and they broaden the research environment by fostering collaboration and impromptu social interaction.
