Flex House

Flex House takes as its starting point a number of interrelated issues—our automobile dependent pattern of suburban and exurban development, the diminishment of natural resources, changes in living arrangements and social relationships, and the inaccessibility of buying a home in desirable urban locations. Flex House addresses these issues by minimizing its footprint while increasing flexibility of use. The compact size minimizes use of building materials and resources, makes the home more affordable, and—multiplied over thousands of homes—has implications for patterns of urban development.
