HOUSE AND STUDIO
New 2,500 sq. ft. house and studio building to replace and existing house and garage.
The owners wished to incorporate an extensive collection of books, culinary activities and art practice with the landscape.
Site plan shows the new house (top), studio (right) and tea house (bottom center). The Tea House is a near focus that is counterpoint to an expansive view of the distant hills.
The new garage/art studio greets all comers
The house and shop form a private, secluded outdoor environment
The second floor art studio gathers light through a series of skylights and the deck offers an opportune place for a break or to work en plein air
The 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house is organized around the volume of a central living space which extends to the trussed roof. The central volume visually connects all of the spaces while the adjacent dining area offers a more intimate environment for eating and gathring
The second level includes two bedrooms, bathroom and study area. The second floor circulation zone functions as a library with bookcases lining the balconies. Access to loft spaces is provided a pair of staircases tucked away from the central space
View across the central volume showing library, stair access to loft space and bedroom access
View from top of the stairs showing access to the bathrooms, stair to loft and bookcases
A steel and fabric canopy system provides an exterior shaded area and extends the interior living space into the landscape
