INSTALLATION OF NEW CNC MACHINES

The project brief called for the installation of three new CNC machines to replace existing three existing CNC machines. This challenging installation required remote mechanical units to provide cooling and services to each machine from the floor below. Tight spacial restrictions and user workflow determined the orientation of the CNC machines and position of floor penetrations providing access to the service space in the parking garage below. Full scale templates of the CNC machines were placed on the slab to confirm layout. The slab was x-rayed to locate obstructions and finalize the positions of pylons.

Pylon Development

Design and Construction: 2011

Designed for an aesthetically sensitive environment, the minimalist pylons provide a discreet, organized point of connection for multiple utilities serving newly installed CNC machines. The pylons provide points of connection for 110 voltage, high voltage, chilled water lines, compressed air, and data. Design and placement of the pylons consolidated multiple services into a single penetration through the existing concrete slab.

The proposed location of each of pylon was confirmed and refined by scanning the existing concrete slab to locate existing slab reinforcement and electrical conduits. Click an image for enlarged view.
